Favorite eats
What is your favorite things to eat. My kids always ask me about many things what is your favorite movie, snack, meal…. they always want to know one thing that is my favorite. I really can’t answer the question I usually like more than one thing. Take fruit there are bananas, peaches, pears, plums, cantaloupe yum I mean how can you chose one favorite and I left out so many! What about veggies, I like many of mine raw. Baby carrots, celery, cucumber, broccoli mostly. Then some veggies I like steamed or sauteed in 100% extra virgin olive oil. To me, it is amazing how many people do not like veggies. It is even hard to ask them why. They must have had a bad exprience with them and now something that can really help them live life better is a hinderince to them. I did have a few bad dealings with undesirable plates of veggies growing up, but now after much reading and study of good nutrition, I really enjoy most all veggies. But there solutions for people who have had vivid memories of bad dishes of over boiled veggies. I have been thinking about junk food recently. Really what is the draw beside taste. It prabally has too much of many things. To much grease, salt, msg, hfcs, sugar,( i do have a 76 point list of why sugar is bad for you.maybe I share in future) or a combination of many more things. These Just put weight on us, slows the metabolism, makes us more hungry, not letting us stay away from the doctor and we’ll spend more on those co-pays. What about eating better. Sweet eat fruit what is your craving? Stay without surar for three days and you will crave sugar much less or not at all. We all complain of co-pays medical bills medical insurance if you can afford it.So if you feed the body the right things the body has a tendency to repair itself. If the body has a built in repair mechanism and all you have to ddo is feed it correctly, why would you not do it. Can’t do it on your own then get some help.
I can help you with a good deal of information, point people in the right direction. In have read and studied about nutrition for the last 12 years, do I know all, NO. But I have a great deal of resources to help, including doctors, scientists and a Nobel Prize winner.
People who want to change what they eat for thier regular diet and want to eat healthier, thier first question usually will I be hungry. 98 % ask this question. It comes from not knowing how to eat better. And one of the biggest mistakes is not having enough protien in you, not a lot at one time but throughout the day. Many people want to eat a breakfast that will last then from morning to mid-afternoon and then eat one big dinner and all done for the day. This is a great way to gain weight and lose energy during the day. Much better would a good breakfast, good lunch a dinner on a smaller than usual dinner plate with a 8 oz glass of water before dinner one snack mid morning and one snack mid afternoon. Also half your body weight in ounces of water per day. If you do not drink that amount of water work your way up to that amount. Changing your eating habits takes a little getting use to. You have to get off the automatic cycles you have placed on yourself for so long. You have to make a list or a schedule or a good plan for your meals until you get use to a new way of living and new patterns in your eating habits. You will have to be concious of what you eat but not to dwell on it or you will be hungry just dwelling on food and it could get you off course.
In the next post will get into types of food for planning what to eat.
Weight Loss
With all the weight loss programs out there you might that everyone would be at their ideal weight by now, but if we take a look around we would see this this is not the case. Why do some work and some don’t. I think that there are some ingredients that should be in a good program. I think that people need a good reason for their loss or a strong “why”. With out a good goal or aim or reason to go for it is easy to give up. What is it that will keep you on the straight and narrow. Some people get a coach to help them to be accountable to, or just knowing you are going in to be weighed helps some. One of the biggest things in a program – Is it convenient to use, Can you use it daily without being the only thing that you think about all day, which could really make you more hungry. Are there hard to find foods or more difficult to prepare. Is it affordable. The price of food is on the rise and real good food is at a premium. We today have to consider where your food comes from and how is it grown. Are the veggies sprayed with pesticides, is the chicken you purchase free range or express grown with chemicals. The beef same question? What they ate you are eating. It is so discouraging to try to lose weight and you think that you are eating good food and it really is keeping you overweight by the chemicals in the food. Does your program include exercise? I’m not talking about running a marathon. I am saying that if you do not exercise you need to start. A good starting point is walking how ever long than increase it with length and intensity. A stroll for 20 minutes will barely burn 100 calories, then many go home and reward themselves with a cookie (do I really need to comment here). Does your program have a balances approach to nutrition? Most doctors will tell you get good nutrition and exercise. O K doc what is good nutrition? Most doctors admittedly will tell you that were not trained on that in doctor school. So you need a nutritionist or some one who knows a good deal about food. Is your program one sided , low carb only low fat only and you feel unsatisfied? Is it a program that you can stay on for life? Yes for life. Getting to a place in life where you are so uncomfortable you realize you need to do something for a short period and the go back to the eating habits that brought to that place where you needed help ( what is the definition of insanity ?). My goal is to help people. I am a weight loss coach. I know that people still go to restaurants, they get invited to birthday parties, and to peoples homes to eat and eat and eat. I get it. Other people may not care that you are trying to get healthy. Some can be jealous that you are losing and they can’t ( or they are not getting the help that they need), but after you lose how do you keep it off and maintain better health and stay away from doctor visits. 70% of doctor visits are nutrition related, yes they can be avoided or decreased. In your regular day do you plan your meals or do you decide when you are hungry. Do you get enough protein? Do you get enough good carbs? Do you get enough good fats? If you are hungry you are not getting enough protein. There is a percentage ratio of protein ,good carbs and good fats. Email me and I will send that to you. For a simple healthy and affordable program get in touch with me and we can discuss some options. Thank you for listening. Mark Southworth
